Size and weight of a 10ft lorry
Our 10ft lorry takes loads of up to 1,000 kg. The cargo space is about 290 cm long, 150 cm wide and 150 cm high, enough for the contents of one room but not a whole flat.
You don't drive it. A UPX driver comes with the lorry, so you don't need a licence.
What fits in a 10ft lorry
As a rough guide, a 10ft lorry takes:
- a mattress and a bed frame taken apart
- a fridge and a washing machine
- a small sofa or an armchair
- a wardrobe taken apart, or a chest of drawers
- the boxes and bags from one room
It suits moves like these:
- moving out of a rented room or a student hostel
- a studio, or a small flat without much furniture
- picking up second-hand furniture you bought online
- shop stock, event equipment or office items that don't fit in a car
For a whole HDB flat, a 10ft lorry usually means several trips, and a 14ft lorry does it in fewer.
10ft lorry, van or 14ft lorry?
Pick the smallest vehicle that takes everything in one trip.
| Vehicle | Takes up to | Cargo space (L × W × H) |
|---|---|---|
| 2.4m van | 600 kg | 240 × 150 × 150 cm |
| 10ft lorry | 1,000 kg | 290 × 150 × 150 cm |
| 14ft lorry | 2,000 kg and more | 510 × 200 × 210 cm |
The 2.4m van is enough for a few pieces of furniture or a load of boxes. The 10ft lorry suits one room, or heavy appliances. For a whole flat, or long items that need the extra length, take the 14ft lorry.
If you're unsure, measure your two biggest items. When they fit in the cargo space with room to spare, the 10ft lorry is enough.
How to book a 10ft lorry
You can book in the UPX Express app or on the web at upx.org.
- Set your pickup and drop-off addresses. You can add up to two extra stops on the way.
- Book for now, or pick a date and time if your move is planned.
- Choose the 10ft lorry. Say whether your item is bulky, add a photo of it if that helps, and tick "Need assistance?" if you want help loading and unloading.
- Check the price. It includes anything extra you chose, and you see it before you confirm.
- Pay by card or from your UPX wallet, then follow the driver live on the map and chat with them in the app.
Use the pickup and drop-off notes for anything that helps the driver, such as the block number, the loading bay or a gate code.
Where the lorry parks
A 10ft lorry stands about 3 metres tall, so it usually can't drive into a multi-storey or basement car park.
- Every HDB block has loading and unloading bays for quick loading, and blocks served by a multi-storey car park have two each (Ministry of National Development). In older estates with surface car parks, the lorry loads from a parking lot. Tell the driver which bay is closest to your lift lobby.
- In a condo, the management sets its own rules for delivery vehicles and moves. Ask the management office a few days ahead where the lorry should stop, and book the service lift if they require it.
- At an office or a shop, check whether the building's loading bay needs a booking and has a height limit.
Before the lorry arrives
- Measure your biggest items against the cargo space, and check that they go through your doors and into the lift.
- Take bed frames, wardrobes and tables apart, and keep the screws in a labelled bag.
- Pack small things in boxes or bags. They load faster than loose items, and nothing gets lost.
- Have everything near the door or at the void deck when the driver arrives.
