Size and weight of a 14ft lorry
Our 14ft lorry takes loads of 2,000 kg and more. The cargo space is about 510 cm long, 200 cm wide and 210 cm high. That is twice the weight our 10ft lorry takes, and more than twice the space.
Every booking comes with a UPX driver. You don't drive the lorry, so you don't need a Class 3 or Class 4 licence. It works like hiring a lorry with a driver, except that you book one trip at a time in the app.
What fits in a 14ft lorry
As a rough guide, a 14ft lorry takes:
- the beds and mattresses from two or three bedrooms, with the frames taken apart
- a sofa set and a coffee table
- a fridge, a washing machine and a dryer
- wardrobes taken apart, chests of drawers and bookshelves
- a dining table and chairs
- the boxes and bags from a whole flat
The furniture and boxes of a typical three-room or four-room HDB flat often go in one trip. A bigger home, or a flat with a lot of furniture, may need two.
It also suits jobs like these:
- moving a small office, with its desks, chairs, cabinets and boxes
- a shop moving its stock and shelving
- event equipment, such as tables, display stands and sound systems
- tall items that need the extra height, such as shelving or a wardrobe kept in one piece
10ft or 14ft lorry?
| Vehicle | Takes up to | Cargo space (L × W × H) |
|---|---|---|
| 10ft lorry | 1,000 kg | 290 × 150 × 150 cm |
| 14ft lorry | 2,000 kg and more | 510 × 200 × 210 cm |
The 10ft lorry is enough for one room, a few big pieces or heavy appliances. Take the 14ft lorry when your load fills more than one room, weighs more than 1,000 kg, or has items taller than 150 cm.
If your load is close to what a 10ft lorry takes, the 14ft saves you a second trip. When you're unsure, list your big items and measure the two largest against the cargo space.
How to book a 14ft lorry
You can book in the UPX Express app or on the web at upx.org.
- Set your pickup and drop-off addresses. You can add up to two extra stops, such as a storage unit on the way.
- Book for now, or choose a date and time. For a planned move, book for the time your lift or loading bay is free.
- Choose the 14ft lorry. Say whether your load is bulky, add a photo if it helps, and tick "Need assistance?" if you want help loading and unloading.
- Check the price. It includes the extras you chose, and you see it before you confirm.
- Pay by card, PayNow or your UPX wallet. Then follow the driver live on the map and chat with them in the app.
Use the pickup and drop-off notes for anything that helps the driver, such as the block number, the loading bay, a gate code or the time you've booked the lift.
Where the lorry parks
A 14ft lorry stands about 3 to 3.5 metres tall. It usually can't enter a multi-storey car park, and many basement car parks are too low for it as well.
- Every HDB block has loading and unloading bays, and blocks served by a multi-storey car park have two each (Ministry of National Development). In older estates with surface car parks, the lorry loads from a parking lot. Tell the driver which bay is closest to your lift lobby.
- In a condo, the management sets its own rules for moves and delivery vehicles. Ask the management office a few days ahead where the lorry should stop, and book the service lift if they ask you to.
- At an office or a shop, check whether the building's loading bay needs a booking and has a height limit.
Getting a whole flat ready for the lorry
- Measure your biggest pieces, then check they go through your doors and into the lift.
- Take beds, wardrobes and tables apart the day before, and keep the screws in labelled bags.
- Pack small things in boxes, and write the room on each one so it goes straight to the right place.
- Keep a bag with your documents, keys, chargers and medicines with you, not on the lorry.
- Have everything at the door or in the lift lobby when the driver arrives.
